Step 4 of 7

Pre-Module 1 Task 1

Scientific method describes the logical problem-solving process followed by scientists to test and answer their questions. It is broken down into three main stages, comprising eight skill areas. All scientists follow the same basic process but the exact steps may vary depending on the scientific question being answered. The skill areas can be viewed as a series of steps to follow that can be repeated, modified, and reordered depending upon the results emerging from the inquiry. Science inquiry work at school should train students to develop their skills in the eight skill areas of scientific method.

Please answer the following questions in your learning journal as you reflect upon your own inquiry work and the nature of scientific method.

Question 1:

How closely do you currently follow the idea of scientific method in your inquiry work?

Question 2:

What are the implications of this dual focus upon scientific method and the 9 inquiry levels for you?
